Canadian Undead

My friend, Jansen Cinco, a multi-talented musician, accompanied me to Toronto this past weekend to play keyboards at an acoustic showcase at the Canadian Music Week Conference right after the screening of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead at the National Film Board. Armed with Mac’s Flip camera he captured some scenes from the trip. We joked about one of us trying to film the show while it was happening, but we couldn't balance the cameras on our toes. The screening went really well thanks to Todd Brown, the brilliant man behind the program.

The Creator of “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead” talks about the internet, promotional materials and Slamdance.

"I was buried under papers, keyboards and props from the film, designing T-shirts, postcards and stickers in photoshop for the 5th consecutive week, when Dan Schecter (writer / director of Goodbye Baby) gave me a ring and said it was time to shed some light on the situation, by literally bringing lights, cameras and a small crew into my bedroom/office. There was barely enough time to throw on a nice button down, clear away a stack of cereal bowls and coffee bugs and do fifty jumping jacks to get my circulation going, before the interview commenced. Mike Landry, producer and Guildensternian actor, stopped by to help me explain the madness known as the Shakespiracy."

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Get Airbrushed

Two nights ago I got a call from the folks at Canadian Music Week inviting me to play some songs from my solo record “Airbrush” (pre-release now available on itunes) right after the Canadian Premiere of the film at the Library Bar in the Fairmont Royal York. I have to admit I was a little nervous, since it’s been a while since I sang and played my songs in public. I’ve had other gigs with bands, but it’s a different animal (to use an expression I hate) playing solo. The last time I played my songs solo was in Toronto in 2004 so it’s all come full circle. Jansen Cinco (bass player from my old band Domino) will be coming up to accompany me on keyboards – which admittedly makes it slightly less solo-ish. If you’re in town, hope to see you there.
